“Keep learning from everyone – spouses, colleagues, your kids, and even your dogs – everyone around you. Challenge yourself to always keep getting better.” – Bill Walker
To Do Today: Be inspired by the life of Bill Walker and constantly learn from those around you.
In November 2017, a longtime friend of my Dad’s, Bill Walker, passed away as a result of complications from exposure to Agent Orange during his service in Vietnam. Today, Bill will be inturned at Arlington National Cemetery.
In 1967, Bill volunteered for active duty in the 101st Airborne Division. He served as a combat medic for 3 tours of duty in Vietnam. Bill’s military medals and commendations include:
- Bronze Star Medal
- Army Commendation Medal
- Combat Medic Badge
- 101st Airborne Division Screaming Eagle Patch
- Republic of Vietnam Service Medal
- National Defense Service Medal
- Army Meritorious Unit Citation
- U.S. Army Sharpshooter – Rifle
From 1975-2007, Bill served as the Head Athletic Trainer at the University of Cincinnati, where he first met my Dad who was a Bearcat student-athlete. Bill became a mentor to my Dad and the two remained close friends for the rest of their lives. Below is the introduction video for Bill’s induction into the UC Athletics Hall of Fame – including a quote from my Dad talking about his dear friend.
